The King: the Biscottino di Novara

Ladies and gentlemen here is the Biscottino di Novara!

The production of this Biscuit is still "handmade"; moreover the Biscottino di Novara is actually "twice baked" (in Italian bis-cotto) and nowadays it is a gold dust!

In the second shot you can see on the left the uncooked dough and on the right the Biscuits after the first cooking. The batch is very fast to keep the right temperature of the oven.

A "colored" genius

Yesterday evening the Tag Art Gallery hosted the opening of a new exhibition dedicated to the work of Nicola Pankoff (the man on the door), the artist chosen by Lindtt to illustrate the new Christmas packages.

Nicola Pankoff produces himself the colors for his paintings grinding and mixing powders and pigments, and the result is amazing...

The sky above Novara

Today was a very beautiful and sunny day.

Above my head a cloud and an aeroplane in an infinite blue sky.
Air and steel...and everything was so light...

A bit of Novara in London

Moving around Harrods' shelves you can find a light blue box with a golden illustration.

You can read "Biscottini di Novara Camporelli".
"Biscottini" means "little biscuits" while "Camporelli" is the wonderful workshop that proudly produces this unique biscuit since 1852.

You must buy and taste them dipped in a fresh water glass.
Buon appetito!

Buon appetito!

Ready to start...a new week?

This artwork (thanks to Mario Brugo) exposed in the rooms of the Barriera Albertina remembers me the work of Nam June Paik.

It is quite interesting the dichotomy graphics/sculpture - 2D/3D with the engagement of light.

Anyway, this is a way to wish you a nice week!

David VS Goliath

My faithful bicycle poses next to the huge columns of the tetrastyle Corinthian pronaos of the Neoclassical Cathedral dated 1886 (white Roman numerals).

Novara Foggy Photo

And today the Neoclassical Cathedral disappears in a mystic invisible sky.

On the right the Neoclassical facade hides the Romanesque remains.

Historical stratifications

In this autumnal atmosphere buildings are as rock layers that show the passing of time.

In 1813 the Parsonage courtyard was used as Museum of ancient stone tablets that nowadays includes also Celtic and Roman finds.

Behind the Parsonage the white of the Neoclassical Cathedral contrasts with the pale red of the bricks. These are what remains of the ancient Romanesque Cathedral, built on the Medieval one and then destroyed and rebuilt by Antonelli in Neoclassical style during the XIX Century.

Stratificazioni storiche

Light and Lake

This is an old picture I took some time ago.
This horizontal stratification of the landscape is what you can see looking out the window.

Darkness and light, grass and water, mountains and sky compose together a striking view of the Lago Maggiore.

Luce e Lago

I have seen the Light

It's 7:10 a.m....After a night spent at work, I can say that I have seen the end of the tunnel...

This is one of the porticos you can see in Novara, wonderful rhythmic elements in the space especially when matched with other elements, in this case lights.

The straw bales army

The Novarese country populate itself with particular inhabitants, big round straw bales that look like an army that goes forward slowly.

I like very much the contrast between the flat horizon of fields and the landscape described by the bales.

Building or scenography?

This is not a Photoshop retouch!
From a particular point of view this wonderful building, the "ex" Cinema Faraggiana, looks like a giant print without depth.

Edificio o scenografia?

Nubilaria

I am not a photographer but this shot is not an error...
One of the theories regard to the origin of the name Novara is that it comes from "Nubilaria" that means "enveloped by fog".

Nubilaria

I want to break free

Nature sometimes claims its rights and its territory...
The tree and the ivy eat the metal railing.

A coin on the balcony

Q. House is one of the wonderful Liberty testimonies in Novara.

The designer of the house was a relative of the Austrian architect Otto Wagner and you can see his influence through the details of the circular window.

This funny contrast (round and rectangle, color and grey) looks like a mixture of two different facades.

The City of Rice

Novara is encircled by rice paddies that in this period change into golden meadows...till harvesters eat everything...

An advice: if you pass through Novara do not miss to taste the "Paniscia".
What is Paniscia????...You will know...

Novara's Dome

Built between 1844 and 1888, the San Gaudenzio's Dome was designed by Antonelli, the same architect who designed the Mole in Turin.
At the top of the Dome (121m height) you can see the giant golden copper Christ sculpture.

This is one of the symbol of the city.

You will often find the Dome or some details of it in the background of the photos I will post.

Novara - Italy

Where is Novara? Novara is in Italy, between Turin and Milan.
Some call Novara "Milan's dormitory"; some others "Turin's dormitory".

What can I say?

Thanks to my friend Frederik (http://www.milanodailyphoto.blogspot.com), the idea to make people know that Novara exists and it is something more than a dormitory...

So, I hope you will be interested in this blog and you will enjoy it.

See you soon,

teo

Novara – Italia
A presto.
